O Grupo Calico anunciou hoje que a prática local de arquitetura baseada em Liverpool, Brock Carmichael, foi escolhida para trabalhar com casas de chita para fornecer a transformação de terras hospitalares abandonadas em novos apartamentos, com 90 unidades de atendimento extra e um hub comunitário inclusivo. The ambitious development is a first for Burnley; aiming to provide specialist assisted-living accommodation in a neighbourhood setting where health, support services and community activities can come together to improve people’s quality of life and reduce social isolation.
The first phase of the development would include 90 apartments of accessible extra-care homes for local people over 55 with extra support needs, within easy reach of local amenities and the hospital.
Extra care housing comprises self-contained homes with design features and care and support services that help people to remain independent for as long as possible. It can offer many different levels of support, which can be altered as care needs change. Currently there are no dedicated Extracare Schemes in the town.

“We are excited to be working on the transformation of derelict land at Burnley Hospital into the first state-of-the-art specialist assisted-living apartments, health facilities and community hub for Burnley.
“We bring our experience in medical centres, assisting living, regeneration and place-making to the table knowing how important this project is both to Calico Homes and to the town. This will be another example of how we work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary, public and private sector teams to ensure the project is delivered to time and budget.

Plans for the new development will be formally submitted to Burnley Borough Council early in 2021. The project will generate a number of local jobs and apprenticeships over the next few years, as the work takes shape.
