This year’s results saw The City of Liverpool College achieve high levels of success, with 11 out of its 15 schools seeing over 98% pass rates. In total, 36% of the College’s students gained A*-B grades in their A Level and Level 3 exams – setting a new record for the College.
This year’s A Level graduates are the first to sit exams since 2019 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with the classes of 2020 and 2021 receiving grades assigned by teachers. Despite national concerns surrounding how the previous two years and unprecedented structural changes to learning would impact this year’s learners, students of The City of Liverpool College have gone against the grain, achieving some of the College’s highest results to date.
The raving success of this year’s results put the College’s students in an excellent potion to progress into their desired next steps, whether that be going on to the world of work, higher education, or higher-level qualifications.

Among those celebrating was Yentel Russell, 19, who moved to Liverpool from Curacao in 2019. The former Vice President of the City of Liverpool College Student Union took home A*, A and B in her A Levels which secured her a position in her first-choice university, University of Liverpool, to study International Relations and Spanish. After moving from the Caribbean just before the Covid-19 pandemic hit, this year’s A Level exams marked the first set of official assessments she has taken in the UK.
On returning to education following the Covid-19 pandemic, Yentel Russell said:
“It was definitely bit strange coming from the pandemic and getting used to in-person teaching and taking official exams after so many years, but I feel like we got a lot of support to get through it.”

Hundreds of 16-18 year olds received their results at the college, which runs A Level and level 3 courses and apprenticeships for both school leavers and adult learners.
