The Social and Economic Impact of Sport in the Birmingham region and further across the UK.
We will be discussing the legacy of the Commonwealth Games, the plans to regenerate the Birmingham City FC stadium, Villa’s recent renaissance, and the positive social impact sport can have on industry and community.
Speakers Address:
We will be joined by guest speaker, former Everton Footballer and Mental Health Ambassador for Causeway, Trevor Steven who, drawing on his connections and experience in the world of Sport will be giving his take on the future of sport and sporting projects in the region.
He will also be speaking on his experience working as Mental Health Ambassador for Causeway and their work with Everton in the community to tackle the mental crisis in the Construction industry.
About the Speaker:
Trevor Stevens is a former professional footballer who progressed through the ranks at Burnley, making his debut in 1981 and making his name as a member of the successful Everton side of the 1980s.
He also had a successful career with France’s Marseille and gained 36 international caps for England.
Since his retirement from professional football, Steven has had a successful career in the media. In his early career, he worked as a co-commentator for the BBC during their coverage of the 2002 FIFA World Cup. He now acts as a pundit for RTÉ Sport in Ireland, having covered the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany for the broadcaster. He is also a regular contributor to RTÉ’s coverage of the Premier League and UEFA Champions League, acting both as analyst and co-commentator. He contributed to RTÉ Sport’s coverage of the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
In addition to his career as a sports broadcaster, he also set up his own consultancy firm Trevor Steven Consultancy.
Since 2020 he has acted as a Mental Health Ambassador for Causeway Technologies, in which role he spearheads Causeways partnership with Everton in the Community as the organisations work together on a campaign that tackles mental health in the construction industry. By working with Causeway’s employees, customers and the wider construction industry, he hope to highlight and raise awareness of mental health in the industry through the partnership with EitC.
