Hospitalidade: Uma carreira de infinitas possibilidades

Hoje de manhã, deparei -me com um artigo perspicaz intitulado do garçom ao empreendedor: a evolução do trabalho de hospitalidade no século XXI on the UKHospitality website.

The piece delves into how hospitality careers have transformed over the years, particularly the shift from traditional roles into multifaceted professions.

One point that really stood out to me was how working in hospitality no longer means being confined to a single path—it can be a launchpad for a diverse and dynamic career.

Historically, roles like waiting tables or bartending were often seen as temporary jobs, a stepping stone while studying or between career moves. But that perception is rapidly changing.

The industry has evolved, and with it, so have the opportunities available to those who work within it.

Today, hospitality professionals are developing skills that go far beyond customer service, branching into areas like digital marketing, business development, and event management.

A bartender isn’t just someone who mixes drinks—they’re a brand ambassador, a social media strategist, and sometimes even a business owner in the making.

Technology has played a huge part in this shift. The rise of digital platforms has opened doors for professionals to expand their expertise, whether through online training, networking, or even launching their own businesses.

Social media has turned chefs into influencers, hotel concierges into content creators, and restaurant owners into thought leaders.

The gig economy has also given people the flexibility to work across different venues, gaining a wealth of experience that would have been difficult to achieve in a more traditional, linear career.

Another exciting change is the increasing number of hospitality professionals becoming entrepreneurs.

Many of the most successful restaurant owners, hoteliers, and event planners started on the front lines of the industry.

Their hands-on experience gave them a deep understanding of customer expectations, business operations, and the nuances that make hospitality so unique.

Esta mudança nas carreiras de hospitalidade ressoa comigo em um nível pessoal. Comecei na linha de frente, não em um papel fascinante, mas como um limpador de janelas em um hotel resort.

Esse trabalho me deu minha primeira visão de como um hotel realmente opera. A partir daí, mudei para a recepção, onde aprendi a importância das primeiras impressões, da experiência do hóspede e dos detalhes intrincados que fazem um hotel funcionar sem problemas. Ganhei a confiança para entrar no gerenciamento, primeiro como gerente de recepção, depois um gerente de hotel e, eventualmente, um proprietário de hotel.

Every role I took on taught me something valuable—how to problem-solve under pressure, how to lead a team, and how to create memorable experiences for guests.

By working my way up, putting in the hours, and staying open to every learning opportunity, I gained the confidence to step into management, first as a reception manager, then a hotel manager, and eventually a hotel owner.

Today, I own three hotels and a restaurant, but I still draw on the lessons I learned from those early days.

Understanding the industry from the ground up has been invaluable—it’s shaped my leadership style, my approach to business, and my belief that there’s no single path to success in hospitality.

As experiências que tive em todos os níveis me deram uma profunda apreciação pelo trabalho que é executado para administrar um ótimo negócio de hospitalidade, e é por isso que sou tão apaixonado por incentivar outras pessoas a ver a indústria não apenas como um trabalho, mas como uma carreira, se há muito bem para algo que se apóia, o que está se tornando um pouco mais importante. More than ever, we’re seeing people take their knowledge and turn it into something bigger—whether that’s launching a pop-up concept, opening a boutique hotel, or consulting for major brands.

The beauty of hospitality is that it teaches resilience, adaptability, and the ability to connect with people—skills that are invaluable in any profession.

As the industry continues to evolve, the idea that a job in hospitality is just a short-term fix is becoming outdated.

Instead, it’s becoming a career of possibilities, offering endless opportunities for those willing to embrace the journey.
