DIB’s Frank McKenna was joined by Bruntwood Director Rob Valentine, City of Wolverhampton Council chief executive, Tim Johnson and Assistant Director Development Planning and Development for Birmingham City Council, Simon Delahunty-Forrest in an open discussion.
Tim Johnson opened the discussion by stating frankly “Wolverhampton want to do things differently.” He discussed issues such as the need to assist regeneration of communities outside of city centres and the significance of the three cities across the West Midlands working collaboratively to “make generational change” and “thinking creatively”.
Simon Delahunty-Forrest followed by reflecting on MIPIM and the ten-year vision for the city of Birmingham. He recognised the importance of “making inclusivity work with young and old people” and that it is imperative that the city champions a health and wellbeing agenda as well as the green agenda.
Finally, we heard from Bruntwood’s Rob Valentine. Rob discussed successful MIPIM planning strategy and the value of having the opportunity to connect with other delegates at the event in Cannes. Furthermore, he touched on the levelling up agenda and its significance post-Brexit.
