The ‘Day of the Dead’ themed evening proved a hit among guests, who could get their face painted with traditional sugar skull makeup in the style of the Mexican festival, which is celebrated in November every year.
Accompanied by a vibrant performance from hit Mariachi Band, The Beat Banditos, and Mexican food and drink, the organisation’s inaugural fundraiser had something for everyone. Hosted at Cordia Blackswan’s head office, The Bank, located on Great Hampton Street in the city’s Jewellery Quarter, guests were welcomed from organisations across the West Midlands.
Spring Housing provides homes for those in the greatest need of housing, investing to prevent homelessness, poverty, and social isolation. The charity’s goal is to create long-term prosperity and to inspire and unlock people’s potential.
Donations were welcomed throughout the event, and guests took part in a charity auction and raffle with prizes donated by local companies including FOKAWOLF, The Wilderness, Fei Lu Fine Jewellery, Deakin & Francis, Artisan Alchemy, Harris & Gibbs Hair Shop, Ridding & Wynn, Punks and Chancers, In Bloom, Creative One, Stevenson’s Hair Salon, Soda Bread Café and Designer Jewellery Boutique.
Working beyond the red line, Cordia Blackswan follows a placemaking-led ethos that considers its impact on the local community to support their wellbeing and create a better quality of life.
The team at Cordia Blackswan are currently working on nine developments in and around Great Hampton Street including build-to-rent, high-end heritage apartments, new builders, Birmingham’s first shared living scheme, commercial units, and office space. The company has also recently announced the acquisition of their first site in Digbeth and has another in the works in China Town.
Marcus Hawley, Managing Director at Cordia Blackswan, said: “Homelessness represents a significant social issue, particularly in large urban centres such as Birmingham, and we are therefore thrilled to have raised over £3,000 for Spring Housing, in support of the critical work they do for homeless people in the city.
“Rather than a one-off, we hope that this will be the first of many events that will enable us to support charities that have a positive impact on Birmingham’s communities. We want our charity events to become synonymous with Cordia Blackswan’s dedication to support Birmingham and its communities and bringing in fun themes like Day of the Dead, we hope that our future fundraisers will be as much of a success as the first has been!”
