DESCRIPTION:\nOn Thusday the 25th April, Downtown in Business Manchester invites you to join us for the latest event in our highly popular and informative ‘In Conversation with’ Series.\n\n\n\nJoin us from 9:30 -11:30am for an exclusive breakfasttime event at Innside By Melia in Manchester with Shelagh McNerney, Head of Regeneration Eastern Gateway of Manchester City Council.\n\n\n\nShelagh will give a talk to professionals from across various sectors in the Manchester City region and beyond, sharing what she has learnt from her work and experiences at Manchester City Council and looking forward towards the future of the city region.\n\n\n\nTopic:\n\n\n\nThe challenges facing Growth and regeneration in the Manchester City region and the future of innovation for the region.\n\n\n\nworking for Manchester City Council on a range of development and regeneration priorities focussed in East Manchester Shelagh has led multiple teams of investors, property experts, developers, planners, architects, artists and businesses in UK towns & cities alongside politicians and diverse residential communities for over 30 years.\n\n\n\nHer position as someone working at the heart of regeneration and planning the future of the region puts her in a unique position to be able to share valuable insights on the most pressing issues facing the region today and how this relates to development and placemaking.\n\n\n\nSpeakers address:\n\n\n\nThroughout her career, Shelagh has undertaken research & written for think tanks, academic institutions, developers, construction & architecture companies & local authorities within the political & economic context.\n\n\n\nDrawing on this experience being pro-development and actively involved in contemporary debate about the built environment & economic growth in the UK, she will provide a unique and empowering insight into the happenings within the construction and development industry in greater Manchester and the challenges facing those working within it and how we can support new developments to thrive in our ever-changing economy.\n\n\n\nAbout the Speaker:\n\n\n\nShelagh trained as a town planner in the mid 1980’s at Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London gaining an M.Phil. & was the winner of the Holford Travel Award.\n\n\n\nShe also has a postgraduate diploma in Built Environment Research from the University of Salford (2017) and continues to pursue academic interests. She is currently studying for the renowned M.A. in Architectural History at Bartlett School at University College London.\n\n\n\nWith 35 years extensive, practical experience working between local authorities & businesses in the realms of architecture, urban development, town planning & construction, Shelagh\n\n\n\nShe has led professional teams of property experts, developers, planners, architects, artists & businesses in many towns & cities alongside politicians working within Manchester & Salford City Councils along with over 10 years in the private sector. She is a fervent advocate for quality in architecture & socio-economic improvements for communities.\n\n\n\nShelagh is also a design review panel member for RIBA “Places Matter” & occasionally teaches in Higher Education & also undertakes consultancy work as well as a regular judge on construction & property awards in North West England.\n\n\n\nBenefits of Attending:\n\n\n\n\nHear Insights from an Industry Expert: Through all her many roles, Shelagh has demonstrated a passion for philosophy and believes building is “the ultimate form of human self-expression”.
